Secret Boy Scouts files secret no more, unveil sexual abuse

Despite the fact that the Boy Scouts organization was conducting a “self-review” of its so-called sexual predator blacklist , a court ordered the release of 1,247 files.

And they have just now been published online.

The files appear to be evidence of sex abuse involving child molestation and other behavior perpetrated by Scout leaders and adult volunteers, as Miranda Leitsinger reports for NBC News.

A statement issued by the Boy Scouts reads: “Where those involved in Scouting failed to protect, or worse, inflicted harm on children, we extend our deepest and sincere apologies to victims and their families.”

The files apparently indicate a pattern showing how Scout leaders and adult volunteers accused of abuse “infiltrated” the Boy Scouts organization – and how, according to attorneys representing the victims, the organization did nothing to truly remedy the situation.

Leitsinger quotes one victim: “[Releasing the files] unveils all the secrecy, or at least a good portion of it, and the secrecy is the biggest demon there is when it comes to things like this, because it’s by being hidden that it basically just eats people away like a cancer.”
