Maryland Breaking-and-Entering Attorney
Burglary is an extremely serious criminal charge in Maryland. Burglary is a felony, which means you would be a convicted felon if you are found guilty. As a convicted felon, you would be unable to vote or own a firearm. Finding a job or getting into a good college would be difficult, as background checks are increasingly common not only for employment but for college applications.
My name is Jim Crawford. For the past 18 years, I have defended people in Baltimore, Catonsville, Annapolis, Bel Air and throughout Maryland who have been charged with theft-related crimes such as burglary, robbery and home invasion. I offer a free initial consultation to discuss your case.
What Is Burglary?
Burglary means entering a residence or a place of business with the intention of committing a crime. While burglary is often charged in conjunction with the crime of theft, you can also be charged with burglary for a sex crime if you are accused of breaking into someone's home to commit the crime.
If you are accused of burglary, you should not talk to police or make any statements before talking to an experienced lawyer. If you admit to breaking into a residence, you can be charged with burglary even if you failed to commit the crime — for example, if you left the premises after realizing that someone was home.
Our lawyers will aggressively challenge the charges. The state has to prove that you broke into a dwelling with the intention of committing a crime. In some cases, that can be difficult for the state to do and may result in an acquittal or a reduction in charges.
