What Is Indecent Exposure?
In Maryland, indecent exposure is defined as exposing one's genitals or other private parts (such as breasts or buttocks) in a public place where others are present and may witness the act. Indecent exposure is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to three years in state prison and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
Certain aggravating circumstances, such as the presence of young children, can result in far more serious consequences, including the requirement to register as a sex offender. Any conviction would result in a permanent criminal record that could affect your prospects for future employment.
Given the potential serious consequences of a conviction, you should never plead guilty or even talk to police about the charges until you talk to an experienced criminal defense attorney.
